February 15, 2002 - Summit Habitats, Inc. Wins Best in American Living Award for Bachelor Gulch Residence

Summit Habitats, Inc. was presented with a platinum award in the "Best in American Living Award" competition on Thursday, February 7, 2002 at a ceremony at the National Association of Home Builders' annual convention and exposition in Atlanta, GA. The platinum BALA award was presented for a Bachelor Gulch residence in the category of "Best Custom Home Over 6,501 square feet."

Alm Architects designed the Bachelor Gulch residence, and interiors are by Slifer Designs. The handcrafted home, constructed of Engleman spruce timbers and native moss rock is ski in/ ski out, situated to capture the sweeping Gore Range mountain views. Groupings of windows frame the mountain vistas, and decks open the home to outdoor living.

The great room, with a soaring moss-rock fireplace, is the centerpiece of the home and serves as an entertaining center equipped with a full service bar. Reclaimed Spanish oak floors add warmth and richness, contrasting with the granite bartop surface and custom ironwork. The residence's open floor plan enriches the visual experience, allowing one to admire the brilliant mix of textures and indigenous materials throughout.

The 2001 platinum award brings Summit Habitats' "Best in American Living Award'' total to five. Sponsored by Professional Builder Magazine and the National Association of Home Builders, the BALA program showcases homes that illustrate design quality, success in the marketplace, and exemplify the best in American living. The panel of twelve judges was comprised of builders, marketing experts, architects, land planners, developers, design professionals and a building publication editor.
